Ottoman Empire

I’ve rediscovered sewing and am having quite a bit of fun creating some new things for our house. About a month ago we were over at Mick and [Carrie’s](http://chickletandducky.wordpress.com/) and I went crazy over a stuffed ottoman (or poof or Gumdrop Pillow as the pattern calls it) that was in their living room. I asked Carrie if she’d bought it at Ikea and was floored when she told me she made it. Of course I had to make one too because it’s just so darned cute! Carrie generously offered to share her [Amy Butler pattern](http://www.amybutlerdesign.com/mainmenu.php?fl=1) and I couldn’t wait to make it. Carrie and I went material shopping a couple of weekends ago and I’ve been waiting for some time to devote to the piece. It’s super easy, but it takes a ton of stuffing! 7.5 pounds to be exact. Luckily, the stuffing was on sale so the entire thing cost less than $30 to make. It’s 24″ wide and about 20″ tall. What do you think? The fabric isn’t as shiny as it looks. I used an upholstery weight fabric and the ovals are a chenille texture. The color is more burnt orange than the pictures. Dang flash making everything look crappy! Next up is the smaller version for my nieces playroom. I just have to get my sister to approve the material.

  1. That……is totally cool. I’m sending a picture of that to my sister, she’s way into upholstery fabrics and is all the time covering furntiure, sometimes for other people. Love the fabric!

  2. I got the fabric at the FM Store which is the best place in town to get material. It was only $7.99 a yard! You should take your sister there next time she’s in town. She would freak!

Damn, girl, that is adorable! Now that I have room to spread out and sew wherever I want, I wanna make one!!! It looks comfy, too. Like you could sit in the middle of it very happily.

OH MY GOODNESS! This looks absolutely amazing!!!! You have some skills girl!!!

P.S. The fabric was the perfect choice!

  6. Every time she comes to town, she goes there and stocks up! We love that place! I’ve even bought stuff without her seeing it (big chance there) and sent it to her since it’s so reasonable.

  7. Carrie, you’re sweet. Thanks for helping me choose the material. You’re a blast to shop with – we both have excellent taste and we like the same place for lunch! Let’s do it again soon. I need fabric for a tote bag.

So cute! Who won’t love one of these?!
